Oh! Christmas Tree
Oh! put the lights up, oh! clean the house, oh! do the shopping, oh! plan the menu AND do the baking……….Oh! ….my ….gosh!
I don’t know about you, but this time of year seems to take it’s time getting here. Of course that’s until Halloween. October is a very scary month because all of a sudden time goes from gridlock on a Friday night to warp speed. Just a couple of months ago it seemed like I had oodles of time and this Holiday season was finally going to be the one I would slow down and really enjoy all the festivities. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Holidays and ready or not here they come! So Santa I would like to have 2 more weeks to get ready.
We have a little over 2 weeks now until the big day when my house will be filled with friends and family for the first time in several years. My work schedule has always kept us from taking any time off to go out of town or have people over. This year however marks many significant events in my family’s lives and we are going to make time to celebrate!
It does give me pause though to think that it has taken these monumental milestones in our lives to remember how lucky and truly blessed we are not just this Christmas but every day of every year. We all have seen others or know others who are far less fortunate than ourselves, who have fallen on hard times, are stuck working on Christmas or are faced with having no one to share the Holiday with. Let’s go out of our way this year to slow down and give where we can, thank someone for working so when we need to pick up something last minute we can and/or set another place at the table for someone who otherwise would be alone. Nothing like spreading the Cheer to put the Merry into Merry Christmas!
We hope you all have the very Happiest Holiday Season. If you are lucky enough to be in Solvang, a top 10 most Christmassy town, please stop in to say “Hi” and have a cookie. Even Santa has time for that.

SUMMER SOLSTICE-SEEING SOLVANG IN A NEW LIGHT
This weekend is marks the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere the longest day of light of the year
Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied among cultures, but most recognize the event in some way with holidays, festivals, and rituals around that time with themes of religion or fertility.[5
We celebrate the beginning of summer here in Solvang with warm sunny days and pleasant nights with many activities. There is great shopping, wonderful restaurants and entertainment including the PCPA Theater productions that run throughout the summer. There is something to do for everyone in the family and there will be a great fire work show on July 4th.

“Shoe In”
This Saturday CA bred California Chrome will try to be the first thoroughbred race horse to win the triple crown of racing (Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes) since the great “Affirmed” California Chrome undefeated in 2014 has despite a modest pedigree shown the true heart of a champion in wining the first two legs of the triple crown and on Saturday he would join such illustrious names as Secretariat and Seattle Slew in winning racing’s most prestigious series of races for three year old’s. “Chrome” is a feel good story, bred from rather humble roots compared to his competition he has proven that grit and determination are the keys to become a successful athlete.
Last year The Artistic Pony added an artist named “Scooter” to our roster of unique and creative contributors to our store. Scooter has worked on the back side of Churchill Downs in Louisville KY home to the world famous Kentucky Derby Race and she came up with a great idea. Retrieving horse shoes that have been used by thoroughbreds running at the track she bejewels them turning a rustic shoe into an expression of art. We are thankful to have found Scooter and her bejeweled shoes and they are on our web site http://www.theartisticpony.com
On Saturday California Chrome will have his date with destiny and here at the “pony” we will be rooting for him to be a “shoe in” for the winner’s circle and his rightful place in racing lore!!!
